Considering the need to checkout of the hotel, and the relative fiasco with the sunrise photography attempt at Arches the day before, Virginia vetoed starting out too ridiculously early on Thursday, October 13. Instead Ken + Virginia were among the first at the provided breakfast at the hotel starting at 6AM. They then checked out and headed to the Islands in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park. The most favored sunrise viewing area was totally mobbed when they arrived more or less AT sunrise (7:26 AM), so they moved on down the road a short distance to the Orange Cliffs Overlook on the west side of the road and decided to watch the valley below transform as the sun rose.
